By Noah Stephens I used to have trouble falling asleep at night, but now I turn on the beautiful music of family radio and I feel comfort. I know that when I have this radio station on, I will not be bombarded by the temptations and sickness of the flesh and the world. Instead, I am blessed by Godly teaching. Not only is there plenty of biblical teaching and prophesy about how close we are to the end, there is also practical advice and information for everyday living. There’s a doctor that comes on at least twice a day to talk about common ailments like diabetes, asthma, etc. There’s other speakers that come on to talk about the importance of forgiveness, patience, and mercy. There’s other speakers that come on to talk about community issues like poverty and homelessness. In short, everything on family radio is Godly, not worldly. Harold Camping is the name of the President of family radio and he has some unusual beliefs that are hard to swallow for many people. However, Harold has studied the bible for longer than most of use have been alive. He has a program on every evening called the “Open Forum” where he takes questions from callers all over the United States. One of the most common questions he gets is how can the church age be over. I won’t attempt to get into his teaching in such a short article, but I invite you to listen to his program sometime and see for yourself how much sense it makes to you. Harold shows from the bible that the world begun in 1113 B.C. He has a book that was just released called “Time has an End” where he shows from the bible how the bible shows the age of the earth. He also explains how the great flood happened and how that skews the way scientist try to date things and come up with ages for the earth that are wrong. More important, Harold claims that the world will come to end in 2011 and this cause the most stir among Christians today. They will call can tell Harold that the bible says “no one knows the day or the hour”. And, Harold says that is corrrect, no one does know the day or the hour. But, that doesn’t mean that no one can know the year. He goes on to explain how in Noah’s day nobody believed Noah that he knew about the great flood. And, in just the same way many people will not believe Harold about the end of the world. The good news however, is that there is a great multitude which no man can number will be saved. Who knows, perhaps you are one of these saved individuals. If you are, you will be delighted by what you hear on this radio station. Everything from the Godly hymns, teaching, and doctrine will be pleasing to you. Visit familyradio.com to listen live online. How To Use ‘The Secret’ For Weight Loss

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

By Sheri O. Zampelli The Secret is a movie about the Law of Attraction. Its popularity is growing daily, especially after Oprah dedicated two entire shows to talking about the movie and interviewing the stars. Oprah wanted to know if the Law of Attraction applies to weight loss and the answer is yes. According to The Secret, every thought, feeling and action sends an electrical impulse to the brain. For sake of simplicity, Im going to call this electrical impulse a message unit. In our society we have the opportunity to absorb thousands of message units daily that will prevent any chance of long-term success with weight loss. In fact, Im bold enough to assert that some of these messages are creating the weight epidemic in modern society. We are bombarded daily with message units of slender, young and flawless images in the media. Since most of us do not meet the perfect image set by the media the underlying subconscious deduction is something like this: Im not good enough, Im not thin enough, Im too fat, I dont measure up. So, if the law of attraction works the same for everything, guess what? You are attracting your weight problem simply by living in this society and absorbing the perfect images crowding your environment. If you constantly reinforce Im not good enough you are sending a command to the Universe. The command is: Give me everything that is not good enough because that is what I am and that is what I deserve. In addition to the extreme level of bombardment from media sources, many of us also get the not good enough message at home from family, friends and our significant other. Sometimes well meaning or perhaps downright cruel family members will say things like, Youre getting fat or Youre a blimp or Youre a Whale or any one of a long string of verbal insults. Since these message units come from important figures in our life, they hold more power than daily media message units and they stay in our minds longer. Many times these harmful comments are repeated in our own minds thousands, even millions of times over the course of our lives. We repeat the words to ourselves so many times that they become our own self-talk. Some of the women I see in my office have struggled with weight for 25 years or more and it all started after their brother called them fatty or their mom took them to a diet program because they didnt look like the other girls. In most cases, these women look back on their teenage pictures with dismay and confusion as they ask themselves, How could I have ever thought I was fat or, Why did people call me fat? The truth is, many times the girl that is called fatty is not fat. She is simply full or voluptuous or even just normal. Over the years we have lost touch with normal because weve been bombarded our entire life with thinner-than-healthy and even thinner-than-possible images of young women thousands of times each day. We begin to think that ultra-thin is the standard or ideal and to think of normal as fat because of our conditioning. The truth is, there is a wide range of shapes and sizes and all of them are right in fact, diversity is our beauty. If you use the BMI (Body Mass Index) as a guide for healthy weight rather than the mass medias impossible images, or your own inner negative self-talk, youll begin to see that health comes in various sizes and shapes. Diets directly contribute to weight problems because of the Law of Attraction. The problem with diets is that all the focus is on deprivation. Imagine how many message units you send to yourself when dieting. It probably sounds something like this: I cant have that, I cant have this, I can never have anything good, I have to suffer to be thin, its so easy to put on weight but so hard to take off. Add all of these message units together and you have tens of thousands of messages that are completely contradictory and adversary to your potential success in becoming permanently thin and attaining a size and shape thats right for you. Another way we can sabotage our weight loss efforts is by sending inconsistent messages. For example, every time you say something to yourself like I should eat more vegetables and you DONT, you send a message: I dont do what I say Im going to do. Every time you say, I need to exercise and you DONT, you send another message: I dont make time for myself (translation: Im not important or Im last on the list). So, guess what? Youre creating a body and a life thats not good enough and not worth the time. If you put self-care last and everything else first then you will probably never see the results you desire because something else will always be more important. The movie The Secret talks about how everything is energy. A person with a weight problem has a lot of blocked or stored energy in their body and that energy needs to be released. Some of the ways to do this include crying, yelling, journaling and talking with a friend, therapist or coach. I have referred many of my clients to Deep Emotional Release Body Work with James Hyman. This type of work can produce immediate and lasting freedom from the effects of the hurts and traumas of childhood. When you release emotional blocks you are free to create and maintain a healthy eating style that will lead to gradual and permanent weight loss. Part of the way to break free from the constant barrage of not good enough message units is to be aware that they exist. Become consciously aware of what you see and what you dont see on the cover of every magazine. Notice how often you see these images and in how many different places throughout the day or night. Notice the headlines. Notice your self-talk. Are you comparing yourself harshly to an impossible standard? Are you judging or berating thin people? How are you feeling? Do you feel fat, ugly, invisible or unimportant? If you live in a metropolis like I do, you see and hear these message units all day, everyday. They are on busses, bus benches, billboards, shopping carts, magazines, radio talk shows, T.V. shows, newspapers, websites, direct mail, e-mail and more. Millions of message units are delivered to you daily and they all say the same thing: You are not good enough. If you are a passive recipient of these messages, you create a life and a body that fits the criteria of not good enough. You will constantly strive to improve your look but no matter what you do, it will not be good enough. Luckily, you can use the same techniques the media uses to your own benefit and youll only have to spend a few dollars doing it. Also good to know: messages that you create personally are more powerful to your subconscious mind than messages from the mass media. In the Donate Your Weight program I provide several pages of positive affirmations you can use to focus on weight loss success and self-care. In my affirmation CDs I use the power of repetition and help listeners to focus on desired outcomes. You can use the same technique by recording your affirmations in your own voice and listening to them continuously throughout the day. Many times we have a weight problem because we always focus on what we dont want. We repeat and rehearse words like Im fat or I still need to lose more weight and eventually we create that reality. If you use affirmations daily on flash cards or audio recordings, you will begin to create the life and the body you want. You can also use a vision board to create weight loss results. Simply cut out or create words and pictures that symbolize what you want to look like and feel like and focus on it every day. Be sure to avoid unrealistic images. There are many things you can do with only a few dollars that will literally change your life but you have to be willing to take the time to become aware of the messages that are creating or nurturing your weight problem in the first place. Then, youll need to dedicate time in your daily life to create a new reality. Just as your body today is a product of past thoughts and actions, your body of the future will be transformed based on the new thoughts and actions you reinforce from this day forward. Sheri O. Home Remedies for Itch, Indigestion and Insomnia

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Michael Russell Indigestion, insomnia and itching are very common ailments in everyday life. So common in fact that we don’t even take them seriously and they tend to be left untreated. The problem is, when left untreated, they often blow up into something far more serious. So when one is feeling a little down and out due to these conditions and not up to getting dressed and going to the pharmacy to load up on medicine, there are a lot of home remedies that are easy and simple to make. Itching Itching can be caused by a lot of things. It may be due to allergies from food or plants, insect bites, stings, or even poor hygiene. You can either scratch away and leave scratch marks and wounds on your skin or you can try this. An old and trusted home remedy is using a weak carbolic acid lotion or mixing up a solution of bicarbonate of soda (commonly known as baking soda) and applying it over the itchy part. Indigestion Common home remedies for indigestion are peppermint and ginger. These are also popular in treating other digestion problems. Apple and tea are also used, as are Epsom salts. Another effective way to relieve indigestion is drinking the juice of a raw potato or an egg white. Cloves are also considered treatment for indigestion. Other herbs that help relieve the discomfort that comes with indigestion are meadowsweet and lavender. In traditional medicine, the use of feverfew, fennel and dill as cures for indigestion is common, as well as thyme and speedwell. Insomnia Insomnia, or the inability to fall asleep or stay asleep, is very common from working individuals with hectic schedules to people in their old age. It is a nagging problem and can cause severe health and work-related side effects. Sleeping pills can be very scary and dangerous to take. So before popping the pill, here are a few tricks you can try. A good and well-known cure for insomnia is very simple - honey. This can be taken in a lot of ways. One teaspoon of honey a night is actually enough to treat insomnia but this can also be taken in a lot of ways too. You can take it with cider vinegar. A popular mix is adding honey to milk with a little cinnamon or nutmeg and drinking this before going to bed. A strange but effective treatment is eating onions during bedtime. This is known to induce sleep. Using either stewed Spanish onions or the garden variety of onions will do. Two or three of them are taken. If you cannot stomach this, turning them into onion soup or onion jelly is a recommended alternative. Onion soup is simple. Onion jelly on the other hand is made by shredding onions and simmering them in a little stock until tender. And then the onions are added into a pot of boiling water with a squeeze of lemon. These are all cooked together. Other sleep-inducing herbs were used in folk medicine. In the Middle Ages, hops were commonly used. In the earlier days, poppy and valerian were used, as well as woodruff and skullcap. Popular also were dill, peppermint and dandelion. Hawthorn and rosemary induce sleep and are old folk treatments for sleeplessness. Chamomile, lavender and lemon balm are famous for their relaxing effect and were regular cures for insomnia then and now. Michael Russell Your Independent Herbal guide. What are Favours and why give them

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Christine Rozon Wedding favours are keepsakes given by newlyweds to their wedding guests to thank them for sharing their special day. They are not necessary but are becoming more popular as a great way for the couple to thank their guests. Wedding favours have been given to guests for centuries and by many different cultures. The first favours were small fancy boxes made from porcelain, crystal or gold and were filled with bonbons, chocolates or other confections. These small gifts were known as bonbonieres and were only given to the social elite. Since then, wedding favours have become more popular and couples are being more creative with their selection. There is such a wide variety of favours that even a small budget wedding can find a great wedding favour. Some of the more popular items include wine stoppers, chocolate covered almonds, picture frames, candles, coasters, personalized mint tins, sachets, themed favours, and personalized keepsakes. Favours have also been created to coordinate with any themed wedding. Some of the more common ones include Beach Theme, Destination Theme, Las Vegas theme, Poker Theme, Winter Theme, Calla Lily Theme, Asian Theme, Garden or Spring Theme, and many more. The possibilities are endless and are only limited by the creative ideas of the bride and groom. However, because there are so many choices, some couples have a difficult time choosing a wedding favour. The important thing to remember is that what you give to your guests should be a reflection of the couple. It doesnt matter what the wedding favour is, as long as it makes your guests reminisce about the wedding couple and the day they were married! Christine Rozon

Guide to Northern Pike Fishing

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

By Bill Rivers Imagine planning a fly-in fishing trip for walleyes and northern pike then discovering that not one, but two of this province’s premiere fishing lodges are situated on that very lake. Furthermore, indulge in the fantasy that both of those full-services lodges have made a commitment to providing your fishing party with a memorable, relaxing, trouble-free angling vacation on a little-known, top-rated wilderness lake. Yeah, right. Can’t be, you say. Verify this data at Nagagami Lake. Big Nagagami Lake first drew my attention several years ago as we drove north of White River on highway #631 toward Nagagamisis Provincial Park. Considering its sheer size, relative isolation and proximity to Hornepayne’s many air services I thought it might have some potential for fishing. But, it wasn’t until March ‘90 at the Toronto Sportsmen’s Show that two very reputable fishing lodges - Nagagami Lodge and Timberwolf Lodge - were associated with the lake. Thereupon, like an arrangement of dominoes, everything systematically fell into place and before the show ended, an August booking was mine. And, in order to get a broad view of Liddle’s 2-lodge Nagagami Lake operation, the trip would see us split our time and fishing between the two camps. Dave Sauve, Ontario Fisherman field editor and a regular fishing sidekick, eagerly agreed to accompany me on this rather unique angling adventure. NAGAGAMI LAKE Nagagami Lake, located approximately 15 air miles northwest of Hornepayne, is a medium-sized, kidney-shaped lake measuring 8 miles in length and 2 to 4 miles in width. The lake shows three distinct areas - the eastern basin, a shallow (20 to 40 ft. ), smooth-bottomed area; the western basin, a deeper (10 to 90 ft. ), irregularly contoured area with islands, rocky shoreline, shoals; a long, narrow, deep (10 to 70 ft. ) northerly arm. Unlike many large, diverse lakes, Nagagami Lake has excellent angling in all three regions:particularly for walleyes and northern pike (although there is a healthy whitefish population and some perch in the lake). The lake is most unusual in that, in the large eastern basin, a very narrow but productive weedline can be found far offshore where the lake bottom falls from 8 to 12 feet. Because it is well out in the lake and not continuous, finding it becomes on of the keys to the lake’s great pike fishing. More on that later! The water is stained from the ever present tannins leaching into the lake from surrounding timber and soils. The lake warms up early for this part of the North and because of its size, can get very rough when the wind blows. There are few boating hazards in the main lake, except along the rugged north-arm shoreline and amongst the island clusters. Isolated hazards are marked by the lodge staff and have been carefully pinpointed on a very detailed, hydro-contour map of Nagagami Lake produced by the lodges for their guests. Key fishing areas are highlighted. Also accessible (via short, easy portages) are two small lakes:Hiawatha and Pody. Both offer excellent walleye and pike fishing. At Pody Lake, a catch & release lake, monster northerns and bigger than average walleyes are caught regularly. WALLEYES With lots of water, diverse structural elements and several incoming & outflowing major rivers, Nagagami is a walleye factory. And, because several lodges and camps operate on the big lake, a river mouth sanctuary policy is in effect on the Foch and Obakamiga (”Buck̶ ;) Rivers until mid-June. Walleyes are found throughout the lake:in current flows at river sites, along weedlines and in the larger weedbeds, off islands and pointes over gravel bottoms, and on mid-lake structures including several classic shoals, humps, sunken islands, drop-offs and bars. As suggested earlier, the spring walleye fishery focuses on post-spawn (male) fish, near river outflows. It is not unusual to see a pack of boats in a small area with all anglers catching limits of walleyes and releasing many fish. Springtime is minnow time and Nagagami is a “minnow lake” all season long. To protect the lake, minnows are carefully collected and sorted before being flown into the camps for fishing. Rigged on small snelled hooks, live-bait rigs or tiny jigs, minnows are fished at the mouths of rivers where deeper areas have been created by the current or along current breaks/eddies. Other productive springtime/early summer walleye locations include the island group out from Pody Creek, an area designated “The Flats” and the upper portion of the out-flowing Nagagami River (as far downstream as Moose Lake). Summer walleyes are widely scattered and predictable, low-light feeders. Three approaches are commonly used by Nagagami & Timberwolf Lodge guests:stillfishing minnows, backtrolling with live-bait rigs, and jigging. Standard, forward trolling with wobbling plugs or body baits is almost unheard of here. For both experienced anglers and vacationing families with kids at Nagagami Lodge, stillfishing minnows was a popular and effective technique. Whether anglers positioned themselves out from a weedline or weedbed, along a dropoff that fell to 20 or 30 foot depths or atop the sunken islands and shoals, limits of great-eating walleyes in the 1 to 3 pound range were the rule-day after day. Best times included the early morning hours, but the twilight times were tops. Daytime fishing was given over to pike. Dave and I took a lot of kidding about our fishing off the dock at night with floats/bobbers. That’s OK. Each night without fail (about 10:30) we’d slip down to the camp dock and catch 3 or 4 good walleye for breakfast. By 1:00 or so we’d caught our fish and were enjoying no-less-than-spectacular displays of shimmering Northern Lights. Those evenings may have been the most enjoyable I spent all summer; they certainly were unforgettable!Get a second opinion - ask Dave! Both Mike Bauer and Ron Dunn, managers of the two lodges, effective fished walleyes the same way:back-trolling across mid-lake shoals with live-bait rigs dressed with minnows. For this approach a depthfinder/flasher/graph is a must for locating the structure and then systematically working the bait rig up and down it until fish are contacted. Favourite spots included a large, marked shoal northeast of the Twin Islands, the “Banana Shoal” beyond that, and isolated humps in the main-lake basin including one off Chuck’s Point and another in the midst of the lake’s eastern basin. The latter spot is tough to locate. Mike put us onto it in a driving rain one morning. S ure that he was “testing our resolve and mettle”, we dutifully backtrolled this spot in the middle of nowhere. Bingo-several larger walleyes! Touche, Mike, but couldn’t it have waited? Although live-bait fishing is the norm at Nagagami, jigging accounts for excellent catches of “yellows”. Location is the key to successful jigging:over shoals/humps/sunken islands or along weedlines and dropoffs. Any significant change in depth, bottom content or cover will attract and hold walleyes, especially during feeding periods. For Nagagami Lake walleyes, pink, white and yellow jigs in the 1/8 to 1/4 ounce sizes are recommended with pink getting the nod most times. Tipped with a small piece of worm or a lively minnow, jigs should be cast and worked down ledges and humps, jigged in short hops off deeper bottoms or cast and retrieved steadily over shallow (6 to 10 feet) bars. On our sidetrip to Hiawatha Lake, drifting a jig & worm combo proved the undoing of scores of walleyes. Our best catches (biggest fish) came off the head of the Banana Shoal where we carefully located and marked a “bite” out of an otherwise regular edge. Everytime we drifted to that spot we picked up fish, including the three largest fish of our stay and the largest caught at camp that week. A tiny “something special” spot. Don’t overlook weedbeds and weedlines as good spots for walleyes. One party at camp ceremoniously located, marked and fished a weedline at The Meadows and consistently caught limits of better-than-average walleyes. Fish were right in there, at the base of the weeds in the only cover in that part of the lake. To get these fish, baits had to get right in, amidst the stems and stalks; sometimes only to be grabbed first by Nagagami’s opportunistic pike. Hey, that’s OK, too! While at Nagagami, don’t pass up the incredible shore lunch fish fries put on at midweek by Nagagami Lodge and daily (weather permitting) by Timberwolf Lodge staff at the Twin Islands. The great outdoors, good friends and a hot shore lunch - “It doesn’t get any better than this”! NORTHERN PIKE During our stay at Nagagami, one thing became abundantly clear:pike fishing was given high priority by visiting anglers, especially “repeaters” who were not only familiar with the lake’s pike hotspots, but also very much aware of the potential for a mammoth northern pike-fish in the 20 to 30 pound range. In fact, while having dinner at Timberwolf Lodge one evening, one of the “regulars” made a point of coming over to us and showing us pictures of past catches of huge Nagagami pike. This was prompted, no doubt, by her excitement over having just caught a magnificent 44-inch, 20-plus pound pike at The Meadows, an extensive weedy area off the Nagagami River outlet. Not an uncommon fish out of Nagagami Lake; uncommon just about everywhere else. Because pike, like walleyes, are predatory fish, their seasonal movements and feeding habits often parallel those of walleye. Very often, where walleyes are caught, big pike are caught, even on the same baits. Resultantly, Nagagami northerns are fished with live baits early and late in the season and with artificial baits or lures through the warm-water months. Come spring, pike are the lake’s first spawners and most aggressive fish. Immediately after the spawn, pike will begin taking live-bait offerings at typical springtime sites:weedy back bays and creek/river outflows. Top spots at Nagagami Lake include the Pody Creek area and a channel nearby appropriately dubbed “Pike Alley”. Large live baitfish, especially suckers, regularly produce the biggest pike in the early season, although occasional monsters will be caught by walleye fishermen, too. Once the water warms, pike will scatter widely throughout the lake-to weedbeds/weedlines, shoals, current flows and deep-water basins - wherever their forage, oxygen and temperature requirements are met. It is at this time that fish start chasing down larger, faster-moving baits - e. g. spinners, spoons, bass spinnerbaits, bucktails and jerkbaits. At Nagagami, this period puts fish in the weeds and anglers looking for the lake’s strange offshore weedlines. Once found, these weedlines consistently produce lots of healthy northerns:fish averaging 5 to 8 pounds. Both our hosts knew these weedlines well and unerringly kept us near them and “on pike”. Ron is a diehard pike fanatic and spoke constantly of the lake’s bigger northerns:historic catches, fish hooked and lost, the season’s best, the lake’s potential for a 50-inch, 30-pound gator! The 44-inch fish mentioned earlier was caught on a bass spinnerbait, yet we took our best pike on spoons and spinners. However, Ron insisted that, if you were to fish strictly for a trophy, a jerkbait worked over and near the weeds would be the most productive lure. To be sure, he had a collection of these wooden freaks - baits in the 7 to 9-inch range worked best. Oh sure, he had a couple of “baseball bats” in there, too. Proven choices at Nagagami Lake include Suicks, Teddy Baits, Reef Hawgs and Hi-Fin Foolers. Casting and working these baits is hard work, so if you troll try a Believer, Swimm Whizz, Magnum Rapala or huge, jointed Kwikfish. Make sure that your equipment can handle this kind of tackle and strain before experiencing a day of frustration or worse, losing the fish of a lifetime. As stated a moment ago, Dave and I successfully pitched #4 or 5 Mepps Agilia Long/Giant Killer spinners and large spoons (Daredevle, Five Diamonds) to the lake’s weed-oriented pike. By simply moving around the perimeter of the eastern basin, fishing the intermittent weedline, we enjoyed fast-paced pike action throughout the afternoon. When fishing pike like this, please equip yourself with proper tools for extracting deeply taken baites from cavernous, toothy mouths - a “gag” to hold the fish’s mouth open, long-reach hookouts, pliers or cutters. The careful and quick removal of hooks and immediate boatside resuscitation will insure a successful release of fish not intended for the dinner table. Sensible catch and release is an art form as much as it is a science. Two other areas deserve special recognition when it comes to Nagagami pike fishing:The Meadows and Pike Alley. With current flows and plenty of weed cover, these areas consistently produce lots of pike as well as trophy-status fish. Bass spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, spinners, spoons and bucktails will get plenty of attention from big, aggressive northerns. Hang on! WHITEFISH Although many northern lakes have very healthy whitefish populations, they are pretty much underfished. At Nagagami Lake during late August through mid-September, whitefish action is outstanding and the lodges offer a continuous smokehouse service to their clientele. Smoked whitefish makes for great eating, keeps well and increases each angler’s legal “keep”. With generous limits and regulated dip netting practices to supplement angling, “whitefish-ing” should be added to the itinerary for late-season guests at Nagagami and Timberwolf Lodges. NAGAGAMI LODGE Located on the northern arm of Nagagami Lake, this 2-star housekeeping resort features superb facilities:spacious, modern log cottages, generated hydro, sturdy 19-foot Powassan cedar-strip boats, reliable OMC motors, a central recreation lodge/meeting area with VCR/movies/TV and a pool table, guide service, bait, fish-cleaning station, smokehouse, etc. Cabins feature 2 or 3 bedrooms, bedding & liner service, modern full-size appliances, wood-burning heaters, 3-piece bath (shower, flush toilet, sink), running hot and cold water, electrical lighting, complete kitchens. Air Service to Nagagami Lake is provided by Horne-Air (Hornepayne, Ont.) via Beaver aircraft. This article was written after a visit to Nagagami Lodge where I did some Northern Pike Fishing as well as fishing for Walleye and Whitefish. Online since 1998 by long-time OFM field editor, Bill Rivers, the Ontario Fisherman is now taking on a new look, but remains committed to showcasing “the best of Ontario sportfishing”. Dating Advice: Getting in the Mood

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By Jack Strom When you’re getting ready for a date, it’s very important to get into the mood before hand. Now this is most important for first dates, because you always want to put forth your best during the date. When I say “getting in the mood” though, I’m not talking about what you might think. Instead I’m referring to creating a positive, upbeat mood that can help you enjoy yourself more and possibly help your date enjoy themselves more too. Now there are a lot of ways to get yourself into a great mood. Everyone is different though, so some of these might work for you while others don’t, but generally, these tips almost always help… 1. Give yourself enough time to get ready. Rushing around at the last minute is almost guaranteed to put you in a foul, frustrated, hectic frame of mind and that is definitely not the best way to leave for your date. By giving yourself time though, you feel much more relaxed, in charge and confident. Ladies, this means making sure you have enough time to do your hair and makeup just right. You might even want to take a relaxing bubble bath first, then take your time to do your hair and make up well. 2. Put on some music that you love. Almost everyone’s spirits are lifted when listening to their favorite music, and the louder it is, the more happy you tend to get. So crank up the stereo before you do anything else, then sing along with the music while getting ready for your date. 3. Choose and prepare your clothing ahead of time. Trying to decide what you’ll wear on your date at the last minute can be agonizing, and that creates massive amounts of stress. No one can be relaxed and in a great mood if they’re stressed out, so take care of the clothing issue a day or two before your date. In addition to picking out what you’ll wear, be sure you’ve prepared those clothes too. If the outfit you want to wear on your date needs to go to the cleaners, make sure it does so. If it needs to be washed or ironed, do these tasks a day or two before. This way you’ll be able to pamper yourself when getting ready for the date, instead of taking care of mundane chores that might put you in a foul mood. 4. Don’t forget the accessories. Even the best outfits need accessories, and this applies for both men and women. Ladies: Choose your jewelry, hose and heels on the same day you choose your outfit. Not the night of your date. And don’t waffle or change your mind constantly. Decide on the outfit and the accessories, then stick to that decision. Guys: These might not seem important to you but they make a big impression on the ladies. Don’t forget accessories such as a nice watch, cufflinks and belt. If it’s needed, shine up your shoes and belt buckle a bit too - on the day you prepare your clothes, not the day of your date. 5. Colognes and Perfumes. Don’t go overboard with these. Some people are very scent sensitive, so putting on too much can ruin the night for your date. Likewise there are some scents people are attracted to which others find repulsive. Guys: Just because you love the heavy musky scent of your cologne doesn’t mean your date will, and Ladies: You might think your perfume smells like flower fields in springtime, but your date could feel it seems more like skunk to him. So err on the side of caution with perfumes and colognes, and put it on much lighter than you normally would. Jack Strom has many years of dating and relationship building experience. Alternative Medicine is Preventive; Western Medicine is Curative

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By Daryl Kulak Have you heard the term wellness? It has two contexts, one in alternative medicine and one in Western medicine. In the alternative medicine world, wellness means taking care of yourself so you don’t get sick. Let’s find ways to avoid cancer, heart disease, mental illness. We can do this through changing our diet, exercising more, and changing our energy fields. In Western medicine, we wait until we get one of these diseases, then we rush heroically to beat the disease. In Western medicine, the term wellness means early detection of disease. If you walk into a Wellness Center in a hospital, you’ll see mammogram screening rooms, MRI machines and other tools to scan for the existence of disease. Is that wellness? To me, it’s not. Wellness is about staying well, it is about avoiding disease in the first place. When a person is told You have cancer, it is a major blow to their psyches, and their lives. Why go through that if you don’t have to? Why not do whatever you can to avoid that terrible day? Western medicine treats the pre-detection part of life as a kind of random soup of nothingness. You can’t really do anything about any of these diseases, you just get them or you don’t. No rhyme or reason to it, it just hits you, and then you deal with it. Genetics is a big factor in the Western medical model. If you get cancer, ah, well, it was in your genes that you’d get it. You see, your great grandfather had cancer, so it was inevitable that you’d get it too. Huh? Unfortunately, Western medicine can’t explain why siblings get or don’t get diseases supposedly passed on from their parents. One sister dies of cancer at a 25 (because of genetics) and the other sister lives to be 100 (also genetics?). For my part, I’m going to take the best care of myself possible, and not play a silly waiting game for disease. Offshore Banking: What You Need to Know Before Opening an Account

Monday, November 19th, 2007

By Joseph Kenny Offshore banking, we have all heard about it before. Unfortunately, many are misinformed when it comes to offshore banking. We have all heard news reports of offshore accounts being used to front illegal activities or to avoid taxes. In fact, we have also seen it in the movies, being used a similar way. This has led many individuals to believe that offshore banking is illegal. Despite what you may believe, offshore banking is legal. However, how you use it may be considered illegal. Offshore banking is done through a bank that is known as an offshore bank. Offshore banks are banks that are located in another country, other than the country that you reside in. For instance, if you live in the Untied States an offshore bank would not be located in the United States. Many popular offshore banks are located in Switzerland. There are a number of advantages to offshore banking, but there are disadvantages as well. The biggest advantage of offshore banking is that you are offered privacy and stability. There are many individuals who place their money in offshore accounts for security purposes. When your money is in an offshore account, you can access it, but many choose not to. It is easier to access and spend your money if it is at a local bank. That is why a large number of individuals use offshore banking to help them increase their savings. Another advantage of offshore banking is that just about anyone can open an account. The most common users of offshore banking are corporations, the self-employed, or individuals who wealthy. Offshore banks may have restrictions on the amount of money that is needed to open an account, but it is not always a large amount. Whether you are a small business owner, wealthy, or you consider yourself middle class, you should still be able to open up an offshore bank account. As previously mentioned, offshore banking is often associated with illegal activities. One of these illegal activities is tax evasion. If you set up an offshore bank account, you will still need to report your savings. Not reporting all of your money in an offshore account can lead to you be brought up on tax evasion charges. It is important to note that you have the ability to prevent this from happening. As long as you choose to use your offshore bank account legally, there shouldnt be any disadvantages to having one. The decision to open up an offshore bank account is a large one. If you are interested in opening up an offshore bank account, it is advised that you fully examine your decision. Many benefit from offshore banking, but not all do. If you are planning on using your offshore account to avoid a lawsuit or to evade taxes, you may want to reexamine your decision. As previously mentioned, there are serious consequences for doing this. As long as you plan on using your offshore account in a legal way, you can benefit immensely from offshore banking. Lose Weight Fast - The 3 Most Important Tips To Success

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

By Sacha Tarkovsky There are three reasons why most people cant lose weight and this applies to about 90% of people who embark on a diet to lose weight fast. The three tips below are applicable to any diet, will help you lose weight fast and allow you to enjoy ANY Food you like. There easy to do and will make your dieting a pleasure rather than a chore. 1. Be Realistic! Healthy dieting takes time and this applies to ANY diet so dont crash diet not only is it unhealthy it will make you ill and even more importantly when you stop the pounds will pile back on even quicker. Take it in simple steps but use this diet to get the fastest results when you start and get you motivated The cabbage soup diet. It lasts only 1 week and is the fastest way to get started. It should only be used for 1 week then you can switch to any healthy diet you wish that is balanced i.e. you get all food groups 2. Starving yourself is not the answer! Your body will only lose a few pounds a week and starving yourself will not make it any quicker or depriving yourself of any of the major food groups. You need to eat 5 meals a day 3 main and two snacks and make sure you never skip breakfast to avoid hunger pangs later in the day. While you need to eat 5 meals a day you need to keep in mind portion control, how do you do that? Well lets consider say rice tuna and vegetables as a meal the size of each portion should be the size of your fist. This is a simple way to achieve portion control So try the above and make sure you eat 3 meals per day and snack on as much fruit or vegetables as you wish. 3. One Day a week do the following Follow your diet for six days a week and then on one day forget about your diet and eat whatever you want. There is logic here and its the psychological impact on your mind. If you overeat once a week you remove the one reason many diets fail, which is when choice is removed from you want it even more and dont stick with your chosen diet. By allowing yourself one day off from your diet you can say: I will stick with the diet and I can still have the foods I really want i.e I have a choice. So wont this defeat the object of dieting No it wont, and there are 3 reasons why: 1. It makes NO Long term difference You will have been eating sensibly on the other six days and one day won’t make much difference. 2. It Teaches you better eating habits By overeating and having treats you will perhaps realize that that your body has adjusted to better eating habits. This day may not be the pleasure you thought i.e. when every day was a free day, or you don’t actually want to eat as much as you thought before you came to your free day. 3. It gives a choice. By giving us choices we are more likely to stay with the diet we have chosen. Remember: To gain weight you have to eat a lot Gaining weight is a long term process and you won’t undo the good you have done on the other six days by having a free day. What you will do is give yourself the choice and make sticking with a diet less onerous. No one wants to be told they can’t have the foods they really enjoy, the free day gives you choice (the major reason most diets fail) and helps you stick with sensible eating longer term. So on your free day if you fancy a Big Mac or a pizza go ahead and dont feel guilty dieting should be a pleasure and not a chore so dont feel guilty. If you follow the three tips above you will be able to lose weight in a healthy fashion and reach your ultimate weight while enjoying any food you want. Try it and see! Plastic Surgery - Where Will It Occur

Friday, November 16th, 2007

By Ricardo Silva As you evaluate the best plastic surgeon option for your treatment, you might be surprised to learn the location of your surgery should be part of your determination. Plastic Surgery Where Will It Occur The question of the location of your surgery probably never even occurred to you when you started thinking about having plastic surgery. If you are having plastic surgery, it must be done in a hospital, right? Actually, there are a wide variety of options and you need to understand them before making plastic surgeon evaluations. Much of the decision making process will depend on your comfort level with surgical procedures. There are three options when it comes to the location of your surgery. The first is the traditional hospital setting. The second is a surgical center. The third is actually in the office of the surgeon. By far, the largest percentage of plastic surgery procedures occur in the offices of the surgeon. Having your surgery done in a hospital is an excellent choice. First, it means your surgeon has hospital privileges, which means the hospital has evaluated the surgeon and found them to have a level of competency the hospital is comfortable with. Second, the hospital surgical process is highly regulated by government, which means you are going to get optimal care before, during and after the procedure. A surgical center is a facility set up to handle a variety of surgical procedures. Hospitals only have so much space and there is rarely enough time available to handle all the surgeries scheduled in your city or town. The surgical center fills this gap. Much like a hospital, it is heavily regulated and the care is very good. To collect fees, the center must be certified by various government agencies, and the government agencies are sticklers for details like safety. Having your surgery in a surgical center is not indicative of any negative factor. Many surgeons have surgical facilities built into their offices. Since they are expensive, you will usually find these facilities when there is a group of doctors providing surgical procedures. While there is nothing inherently wrong with this approach, you need to pay close attention to certifications. Has the facility been certified by an independent group for safety and emergency procedures? The question is not so much whether it is safe for the surgical procedure you are undergoing, but whether the facility is equipped to handle any unexpected problems. Surgery is an invasion of the body and carries inherent risks. It is important that certifications for things such as life support be held by the office and by the nurses. Having surgery in an office facility is very common and has its benefits. The office option is almost always cheaper than hospitalization or a surgical center. Still, we are talking about your body, so make sure to view the facility, ask for certifications and meet with the nurses. If you are not comfortable with any aspect of the facility, you are better off going with a surgeon who has hospital privileges or using a surgical center. There are a lot of factors to consider. Make sure you dont leave out the issue of the location of the actual procedure. Ricardo de Silva is with PlasticSurgeonPractices.com a directory of plastic surgeons.
