Reasons Why You Should Niche Your Business

February 24th, 2008 by kennethbrannen

By L A Parmley Caution! After reading this article, you may need to adjust your product or service, your advertising, your website, or your target audience a little (or all of them). Fortunately, none of these are set in stone and can usually be changed quite easily. I’m sure you realize it’s impossible to meet everyone’s needs. So you need to select a target group and attempt to appeal to them and them alone. This may seem simple at first glance. But, take it to heart; it really is a sure-fire way to increase your sales. Just focus in on one specific area. It is impossible for any one product or service to fill everyone’s needs. You may be a little skeptical. If this is the right way to do business, why dont more (or any) of your competitors do it? Its a good question, and here are a few answers. 1. Your competitors are probably greedy, so they dont want to take a definitive stance. They want all the customers they can get. Their business is plain vanilla. There is nothing unique about them. By targeting a select audience, it does seem like you will have to turn away some clients. But the reality is you cant appeal to everyone anyway. By trying to appeal to everyone, it is likely that you wont appeal too much of anyone. Differentiating is the key to success in business. As Jack Trout put it in The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing, When you try to be all things to all people, you inevitably wind up in trouble. 2. Many businesses are afraid to set themselves apart. This is due in part to being afraid to step aside form the pack. Different scares them. Unique is risky. They have the follow the herd mentality. 3. It can take some effort to come up with a well articulated message. And, if it doesnt work, they will have to revise it. So this takes even more effort. 4. Some of the best messages include a promise. Promises are risky. Therefore,
most people wont make them. You stand a better chance of becoming an acknowledged leader in a smaller niche than in a larger one. If you look around at your competition, it is likely that no one has segmented the market and gone after a smaller niche. That means there is a prime opportunity for you if you give this a try. Cheap Cell Phone Deals

February 18th, 2008 by kennethbrannen

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Eric_Morris]Eric Morris Cheap cell phone deals are everywhere, and if you know how to spot the best from the rest, you can score a couple of good deals like a phone with great features, and a mobile plan with the best rates. Here are some tips. Know what you need. Most of the cellular phone features can be over the top, and if you just need a phone to make calls, you can do away with these features. Do not sign up for wireless Internet, for example, if you dont need to check your emails. The cellular phone company may charge you a few dollars monthly just for subscribing to special promos even if you dont use them, so do not sign up for discount long distance rates, if you rarely make them. Sticking to the basics can keep your cell phone deals cheap, so never subscribe to any service unless you absolutely need it. Get the most out of the cheapest deals. Why settle for an inferior phone if you can get more? Competition is forcing cellular phone companies to offer everything at low rates even their handhelds. Compare cheap cell phones before you buy any. Look at handy extras like conference call capability, call holding and barring, speakerphone, and a built-in FM radio or digital camera. The cheapest cell phone deals are still prepaid deals, which are great for students and other people who want to limit their monthly phone bills. Prepaid are much easier to manage you only use up what youve already paid for, so you dont risk big monthly bills. Prepaid packages also allow you to move from one cellular service provider to another without the hassle of paperwork. If you find one service unsatisfactory, you simply switch until you find the best one for you. Making Projects Simple And Convenient With The Use Of A Sewing Machine

February 16th, 2008 by kennethbrannen

By Michelle Bery There was a time when everything that was sewn was done so by hand; such was the way of the world when clothes, household items, and a bevy of materials that we take for granted today were put together with needle, thread, and a lot of hard work. But the advent of the sewing machine changed the way in which we created these goods and for those who continue to sew today, the sewing machine remains the tool of choice. Since the American-patent was filed in 1846, the sewing machine quickly took its place in history, offering users a level of convenience not previously experienced. Sewing was always something that took time, patience, and hard work. The sewing machine, while still maintaining a need for focus, concentration, and time, allowed the making of projects in a much more efficient way. Of course, the sewing machine of today barely resembles the sewing machine of the past. Streamlined and sleek, todays sewing machine offers the ability to create any kind of stitch that you require and has increasingly elevated the user experience over the years to a heightened level of convenience. For those who are just starting out learning how to sew, a sewing machine may not be a purchase you want to make right away. These machines depending on the bells and whistles they include can be quite pricey. You should be sure that you enjoy sewing and wish to continue before you make the financial investment necessary to purchase a sewing machine. If you do decide to take the leap, be sure to do some comparison shopping. Youll often find a wide variety of prices on different models of sewing machines so take your time to find the one that offers all of the features that you want at a price point you can afford. For easy to understand, in depth information about sewing machine visit our ezGuide 2 Sewing. Money Management for Those Just Married

February 15th, 2008 by kennethbrannen

By Kelly Kennedy So what happens if you marry a spender, but you have been a saver your whole life? A lot of just married couples run into this type of situation once they open a joint bank account. However money management is possible, you just need to set up a compromised budget. Money management is noted as the number one conversations couples argue about in marriage and are also cited for the most divorces. The last thing you want to do after being just married is fight so money management is essential and will relieve any stress. A budget is the best place to start. This may prove to be difficult for the spender but it may also for the saver because you are going to have to meet somewhere in the middle. Create your budget when you have time and both are at ease. Things will flow more smoothly. Miscallaneious-10% Savings-10% Clothing/Dry Cleaning-5% Education/Misc-5% Food-10% Housing/Utilities/Taxes-30% Insurance-5% Medical/Dental-4% Recreation/Vacation/Gifts-6% Transportation-15% This is just a guideline for being just married and you may find that you dont take vacations and you can put money into other areas of your budget but this is just to get you started. To look at your money management now youll have to keep track of your expenses and any income. Create three lists: current spending, spending percentages recommended, and actual budget. In the first column youll want to include the average spent for the last six months. Total your monthly income in the second list, which is household income after state and federal income taxes and social security. It may include salary, rent collected, interest gained, dividends received, income tax refunds, or other sources of money collected on a regular basis. Leave the last list empty for the time being. To determine your overall spending pattern, take your net income and subtract it from your current spending. Keep in mind that you will need to account for bills that dont show up on a regular basis such as insurance premiums, retail credit, doctor and dentist bills, property and other state taxes, magazine subscriptions, etc. Once you have your budget established, there may be a few pitfalls you fear running into, but then can be resolved. Money Management The possibility of facing credit card debt. There may be times when you need to charge things, but set a goal for how much you plan to pay off each month and when you plan to pay it off completely. Try beating that goal and pay it off before your estimated time frame runs out. Only have necessary credit cards as well, too many can get out of control too quickly. Impulse buying. There will be times when you are shopping and you see something that you must have. Just dont let it be a regular occurrence, and consider it a treat to yourself. Thirty-day rule. If you see something you want but it wont fit into this months budget, hold out. Give it thirty days and shop around in the meantime. You may find something less expensive or something better all together. If you dont happen to find something that compares and the item is still available the following month, then fit it into your budget accordingly. “Comfort” spending. If you had a bad day at work and end up at the mall sifting through clothes, turn around and go home to your just married spouse. Although it may make you feel better during the time, it will hurt your joint bank account. Relieve stress, or feeling depressed by other stress relievers you enjoy which may include, exercising or reading. Gift giving. If you buy gifts for relatives and friends or special occasions get creative and think of something new to do. All gifts dont have to be bought. Make something or if you see something in a store that you like but its highly overpriced, buy the products that it consists of and make it yourself, such as gift baskets. You can buy your own items to put into a basket and decorate it yourself. Vacations. Going on a just married vacation doesnt have to be in exclusive resorts. Take day trips or try something new like camping. Avoid souvenirs that youll never get any use out of, and when planning a trip consider all costs so you will know how much you have to save. Money management or a budget is based on variable factors such as family size, geographical location, debt load, and sources of income. Once the basics are covered, you then can get into your own interests and what you like to spend your discretionary income on but its important to keep in mind that this budget is based on your joint bank account, meaning both your incomes, and therefore you discretionary income should be spent on compromised items. This budget will become routine in no time, as your spending habits may change but once you budget once, it will be easy to make changes and stick to a new one! How to Write a Simple Job Description

February 14th, 2008 by kennethbrannen

By Philip Lye 1.0 A timely reminder In a recent decision in a New South Wales court it was found that an employee was psychologically injured and that contributing factors such as not having a job description and controlling management behaviours were responsible. The employee was subsequently awarded $500,000.00 for psychological injury. Not having a clear job description can lead to significant expense, declining morale and uncertainty. In this is the case, you the employer is the party that will be penalised and the courts will not display leniency for ignorance or busyness. 2.0 The Job description A job is a collection of tasks and responsibilities that an employee is responsible to conduct. Job descriptions are lists of the general tasks and responsibilities of a position. Typically, they also include to whom the position reports, specifications such as the key responsibilities and qualifications and experience needed by the person in the job and can sometimes includes the salary range for the position. Job descriptions are usually developed by conducting a job analysis, which includes examining the key tasks necessary to perform the job. The analysis looks at the areas of knowledge and skills needed by the job.
A typical job description is used for advertising to attract an employee to fill a position, or to set the boundaries and parameters of the particular position that you want filled. However, many job descriptions are not framed well and this includes, not worded a job description in a manner such that the employee’s performance can be measured and leaving out key flexibility clauses. It is not uncommon for a person to write a position description, hire the employee and then have the employee refuse to do the banking because banking was not incorporated in their job description. In cases where the dispute has gone legal the employee has a good chance of winning. Its all in the documentation. When drafting a job description it is paramount to include a flexibility clause that will allow the employer the right to direct the employee to perform other work that is within their recognized skill set. 3.0 What should I include in job description Your job description is an important document that needs to set out a number of key matters. 3.1 Purpose of the position The purpose of the position summarises the key reason the position exists within the organisation and a short paraphrase of duties the incumbent is required to understand and take responsibility for. 3.2 Position reports to Having stated professional boundaries is an important part of the organisation and employees understanding in who they report to and what they are responsible for. This prevents any misunderstanding which in the event of dispute will work against you if you do not have it documented. 3.3 Key responsibilities This section of the job description details the main tasks that the employee is accountable and responsible for. It should include the macro items however some employers like to include the micro detail as well. Of paramount importance is point four of the example (you may be required to undertake a variety of tasks, both skilled and semi-skilled, or carry out some other task which is not specifically within your traditional role provided the task is within your core skill competencies and legal requirements). This gives you flexibility to direct your employee to undertake other work not detailed in their job description. We are now living in an age of discontinuous change where todays tasks change tomorrow and this gives you the flexibility to grow with those changes. 3.4 Core Skills Core skills are those skills and experience that the incumbent will need as a minimum to perform the job in a professional and responsible manner. As such, you need to take particular notice when interviewing a perspective employee in ensuring they really do have these attributes. Research has discovered that up to 35% of qualifications, memberships and experience written on a resumes are false. This includes Masters and PhD degrees. Before giving the position to someone reference check carefully. Recently we assisted an Accountant whose employee warranted they had the skills and passed probation and then after probation dropped the ball. If a perspective employee signs off to say they have these skills and afterwards displays the contrary you have common law and industrial rights that protect you. 3.5 Occupational Health and Safety Occupational health and safety is a big ticket item of the industrial agenda today. To many lives lost, over 500 lives lost each year to industrial accidents. Most job descriptions do not contain reference to the employer and employee working within the framework of health and safety and do so to their peril. By including this clause, by induction and training you are able to demonstrate your commitment to health ad safety. 3.6 Sign off Sign off demonstrates that the employee has the core skills, experience, and safety awareness to carry out key responsibilities. In the vent of a dispute this is critical. The Magic Formula Works its Wonder Today Part 4

February 12th, 2008 by kennethbrannen

By Shaun Breen The people of earlier times depended on the rich resource of plants and herbs to cure them of various ailments and maladies. The world has changed a lot but not the basics of life. Even today, many of the life sustaining drugs are procured from natural resources instead of the fact that man has progressed leaps and bounds. Many of thousand of years old remedies go unnoticed because we have become oblivious of our immediate surroundings. Hoodia Gordonii, the cactus with miraculous effect on appetite is one such plant whose use remained limited to the tribal people of South Africa and it is only recently that the world has come to know of its unique quality. The 20,000 old San tribe used it to curb the appetite while going on long hunting expedition. It was a life sustaining plant for this simple tribe. One of the members of San tribe says, I learned how to eat it from my forefathers. It is my food, my water and a medicine for me. The surprising effect of this plant came to limelight accidentally in 1996 while searching a medicine for HIV/AIDS. It was then discovered that Hoodia Gordonii is an appetite suppressant that can be used to reduce unwanted weight. Obesity is emerging as a great problem for the people of western countries. Presently, about a 100 million people are suffering from obesity. It has reached a dangerous point for them. These anxious obese people spend a considerable amount of money to ward of the health hazard related to it. Millions of dollars are spent on dieting- industry with no satisfactory outcome. The synthetic drugs are either not useful or have a short- term effect. With Hoodia, there is an answer to this problem. It is an appetite-suppressant, which works on the appetite and roots out the primary cause of obesity. When appetite vanishes, the food intake is surely going to come down. There is one more positive effect of Hoodia with which, it is going to enrich its originators. With a scramble of major medicine giants on the commercial production of Hoodia, efforts are on to woo the ancient tribe of San. They have been offered 5 percent of the total profit made by the sale of all Hoodia products. They would help in the cultivation of the plant at a commercial scale. This is likely to generate a number of job opportunities. Thus, the production and cultivation of Hoodia, which has been a work very, much embedded in the cultural tradition of San people is getting a commercial dimension now. The Hoodia Gordonii plant which has served the tribe long by reducing their appetite because they did not have much to eat is now going to bring economic prosperity to this section of society that has lived at the periphery for long. Now the plant is going to provide ample food to its producers so that they do not have to stave of hunger again because of the dearth of food. Ontario Is A Fishing Paradise

February 10th, 2008 by kennethbrannen

By Ben Franklin With a huge variety of fish running its streams and rivers and residing in its lakes, Ontario is a favorite destination for fishing enthusiasts the world over. Known for playing host to the “big one,” this Canadian province welcomes tourists to enjoy the natural splendor its boundaries have to offer. Before diving into a fishing trip in Ontario, however, there are some things a non-resident might need to pay attention to. Fishing in this province generally requires a permit and some areas might demand more than one. Camping in Ontario’s Crown lands, for example, might require a specialized permit for those who come to not only fish, but enjoy the great outdoors on their stay. Getting solid information about where you’re going and what you intend to fish and comparing it to what licenses or permits you might need can be a little tricky. The best place to seek answers and avoid any unfortunate circumstance is directly from the government itself. The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources is perhaps the best location to find all the information a fishing expedition will require before it pulls out. That site can be accessed here: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR/index.html. Those who choose to fish Ontario do so for the massive variety of fish they can encounter. Although not all species are found in every location during certain times of the year, here are some general rules of thumb for where to find what kinds of fish: Warm water fish found in Ontario include: pumpkinseed, bluegill, goldeye, largemouth bass, white perch and more. Cooler waters will play hose to black crappie, walleye, rock bass, northern pike, white sucker and even redhorse suckers. The cold waters of Ontario are home to rainbow trout, Atlantic salmon, Chinook salmon, Cisco, smelt and more. The diverse landscapes found in Ontario offer up all kinds of fishing and outdoor possibilities for residents and tourists alike. So prevalent are fishing opportunities in this Northern haven that urban fishing is also quite popular. Keep in mind, however, that licensing regulations may apply even in small urban streams and creeks, so check out the laws before you cast. Whether you’re planning to fish in different parts of Ontario or have a favorite spot picked out, don’t forget to check local rules and regulations. This province is welcoming to tourists and outdoor lovers, but its authorities aren’t friendly to those who don’t play by the rules. Ignorance isn’t a good defense. Check it out before you drop a line. While enjoying all that Ontario’s fishing scene has to offer, don’t forget to check out some of the scenery as well. This province is known for its breathtaking landscapes, abundance of wildlife and more. To truly experience Ontario in all its glory, camping trips are often recommended. While Toronto has the allure of the city, the wilds of Ontario are really where the action is. When preparing for a trip to Ontario, remember the climate here can be a little harsh. Even in the summer months, the temperatures will be cooler than those from some locales might expect. Pack accordingly. #1 Resource

10 Tips to Hiring a Wedding Planner

February 7th, 2008 by kennethbrannen

By Faith Walker If you are in the market to hire a wedding consultant, here are ten helpful tips that can guide you through the process of obtaining a profesisonal wedding consultant.
1. Find out exactly what a wedding planner does do your homework.
2. Find the names of the reputable wedding planners in your area.
3. Make a list of things you would like the wedding planner to do. If you want to plan the entire wedding, but you want the planner to direct the ceremony and reception, then you should utilize the service of a wedding planner for Day of services only.
4. Make sure your budget is relative to the type of service you would like. Most wedding planners are willing to work with you for an allotted amount of time if you are unable to purchase a package. Check with him/her to find out if they charge and hourly rate.
5. Find out if your church requires you use their wedding coordinator. Many churches now require that for the protection of the churches property, that brides must use their wedding coordinator. This doesnt mean that coordinator will work at your reception; it means you may have to hire another consultant to do your reception.
6. Check with several bridal associations and see what their members must do to become certified. Find out what classes if any your wedding consultants have taken to become certified or how many years of experience they have had in doing weddings. If they arent that experienced, will they provide you with a discounted rate in exchange for a testimonial.
7. Ask for and check references. It is so important that the wedding planner live up to the expectations of the bride. A good testimonial from a bride is crucial to the consultants business. Check references and find out how the wedding consultant was able to handle stressful situations and how well the wedding guests were treated during the event.
8. Skinny down your list and invite at least three wedding planners for face-to-face interviews. Almost all wedding planners offer free initial consultations so take advantage of this meeting and get to know your potential wedding planner.
