This Week Earvin "Magic" Johnson resigned from the position of the Laker's President of Basketball Operations after being in that role for the past two years. Magic Johnson's tenure in L.A. as President of Basketball Operations had not seen nearly the same level of success in creating a winning basketball team, as he had been able to do so in the 80's as a player for the Lakers Organization.

To his credit, he was able to convince the best player in the league (by nearly all accounts), Lebron James, to sign with the organization, but this ultimately did not lead to that much more success as the team had only improved their win category by two wins. Though there were often things out of his control that played a role in their downfall, such as the injuries of prominent starter, including James himself, as well as Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram. But his greatest blunder was his inability to attract surrounding talent to the team such as with the failed Anthony Davis trade earlier this year, where he and an irate New Orleans Pelicans GM (Dell Demps) were unable to come to an agreement. Thus the trade fell apart, and L.A has potentially missed its chance to add a prominent co-star for their Golden Boy in Lebron James.

There was also an opportunity to land Paul George earlier this year when he became a free agent after his contract with the OKC Thunder was up, but Johnson once again failed at this as Paul George re-signed with the Thunder to once again play alongside former MVP Russell Westbrook.

Thus Johnson's tenure with the Laker's has come to a close, and he will not be the savior to this distraught Laker's franchise.
