Wooster Commencement 2019. This year will look different, but it will be just as special

As I have reported on all of the social distancing events, it was only right to cover the events that are coming up during the rest for the year. Today was the last day of classes and that means that we have finals and the last activities and requirements of school left. While the spring, of course, took its unfortunate turn, this year still had a lot to celebrate. As we are looking at the finish line, it is important to remember all of the good things that did happen this year. While the seniors missed out on the last few months of high school, they made a strong impact on the campus and the students below them. Starting the year off strong with the Wooster Olympics and Convocation, we gathered all together many times after that to celebrate, to share, and to enjoy each other's company.

We also must take in every minute of the last two weeks of school for the 2019-2020 year; we still have many events still to come. On Wednesday, we have the Undergraduate Award Ceremony. This event is usually held in the gym and parents, students, and faculty all gather to celebrate. Many different awards are presented in the arts, theater, and academics to honor Upper School Students as well as eighth-grade awards. We will also be having reflection days to finish out the year. For both of these events, we are unsure of the format, but just like every other event so far, we are sure they will pull them off well!

Two other big events coming up are the 5th Grade Send-Off and the 8th Grade Evening of Recognition and Celebration. These are both to celebrate their next steps in their education and the impact they have had on their classmates and community. They will both be moving into new divisions, something they have all worked hard to earn!

On June 9th, SIS presentations will occur for the whole community. Every year, seniors get to share what they have learned and experienced while off-campus for the past five weeks. This is an exciting time, especially this year, to hear about the creative projects that they have completed. This is a day many people look forward to and it is always fun to see the class' faces again after being gone.

Finally, we have a few events to celebrate the seniors as they head off on their next adventures. They have the Senior Banquet and the Senior Award Ceremony. These are special events to end their time here at Wooster, to celebrate individuals and the class as a whole as they gather for the last few times altogether. On June 12th, we will send them off during Commencement. Wooster faculty and staff have been working hard to figure out how to make this day special, even under these unfortunate circumstances. Each graduate will be allowed to bring five guests and they will be spaced apart from other families. While they won't get the same crowd, they will get to be on campus together one last time. We wish them all the best and thank the teachers, faculty, and staff for everything they have done to try and make this year just as special as years past. We will miss the seniors and also want to thank them for everything they have done and the impact they have had.
