Learning Online vs. In-Person
Posted 11/20/2020 02:00PM

With the high rate of COVID cases, many students are beginning to switch over to virtual learning. Zooming into in-person classes is a very different experience even from the one we had in March. I decided to ask students that recently went online about their experiences and how they feel about being able to focus and not being in person.

I spoke with a few students, the first one being Nik Palmisano. Over the past few weeks he has been online but is now in-person. From his experience he said that he definitely prefers to be in-person and thinks focusing is much easier with hands-on learning. With half of the class in-person there are a few setbacks like breaking out into smaller groups and discussing things with your classmates and teachers. And we all know the struggle with connection issues that definitely can interrupt our learning. But overall it is better than having no school at all.

The next student I asked was 9th grader, Kaylin Faiman who said that she also prefers to be in-person because there are much fewer things to be distracted by even with friends in person. She also said that it is a really difficult and odd experience to see other classmates in person while she is online and really misses coming to school.

I spoke to 9th grader Jesmari Perdicho who said that she also misses coming on campus, but she is grateful that she still gets to be in class online. From personal experience this past spring, I know that I definitely prefer on campus and online school can be very difficult but we are all so lucky to have the ability to continue our learning experiences during these unprecedented times.
