Yankees Have Been Struggling Lately
Posted 06/04/2021 02:13PM

If you have tuned into Major League Baseball recently, it's almost certain you've heard about the New York Yankees' losing streak. A team praised for their stars and potential since the beginning of the year, has lost six of their last eight games including five straight. The Yankees struggled in the last two weeks with the absence of Giancarlo Stanton: this has led the team to be without the DH who was on fire prior to being placed on the IL.

In late April into May, he had a 12-game hitting streak in which he hit 25-for-52 with six home runs. This contributed to the Yankees' hot run moving them up to 2nd in the AL east but have now moved down to 3rd. Luckily, OF Clint Fraizer came through Tuesday night late in the 11th with a walk off 2-run homerun, snapping the drought, to which Manager Aaron Boone said, "We needed that."

This has been the 3rd longest losing streak in franchise history, with nine games in 1982 and nine games in 2020. A major contributing factor to the losing streak other than Stanton's absence has been the lack of performance by Gary Sanchez who has gone 10/48 including 16 SO in the past 15 games.

Obviously the batting lineup has not exceeded expectations recently, so how has their bullpen been? The newest addition to the team, Gerrit Cole, has been absolutely lights out with one run allowed with an ERA of 0.62. Meanwhile in the bullpen, there is no one else the Yankees can count on to limit the amount of runs they give up. Dismissing the setbacks of players not performing to the extent of where they usually do, walking off in the 11th inning is a great way to turn it around.

Fast forward to Thursday, the Yankees have now won their last two games to the Rays. This is positive news for the franchise and all Yankees fans. As Game 3 against the Rays comes up, they hope to sweep the series and come out with intensity as they face the Red Sox in a series of three in New York.
