Meet the Prefects

by: Ava Honeycutt

Senior Prefects Henry Rexford and Cara Costigan

This week I interviewed both our Senior Prefects, Henry Rexford and Cara Costigan, on their feelings towards their new jobs around campus. I first asked them about how they feel as a prefect as well as what specific jobs they have around campus. Henry said that initially he wasn't too thrilled to take on the position due to it being such a big job, however, now that he's started his job and the process, it has become less overwhelming. Cara said she was quite happy to have the role due to her being in the jobs program since the sixth grade.

The jobs program at Wooster has been going on for a very long time. Jobs are a way to give back to the community and have every student involved in the self-help program. Part of the program is having our seniors lead certain job areas. As senior prefects, Cara and Henry work together to supervise jobs, events, and keep up with the other job prefects making sure they keep up on their tasks and check in how their workers are doing.

I wanted to know what goals the prefects had in the jobs program. Together, they hope to have perfect job attendance and plan more events and gatherings for people to get to know each other and socialize. This was already made possible by getting together the seniors for a pancake breakfast. Cara and Henry both explained how excited they were to welcome the new students into the jobs program and hope that this will be a way for them to meet people in different grades. Speaking of new people, Henry mentioned that he was very impressed with how well most of the freshmen new and returning are adjusting to the upper school program. They would also like to appreciate all of the new senior prefects and captains for their adjustment and work ethic towards their job responsibilities.

As we start the first few weeks of the trimester, Henry and Cara both hope to focus on having a smooth running jobs period, meaning that they hope everyone is comfortable in their job area and with the people they are working with. Not only do they wish for comfort, but they also hope to get to know everyone and welcome them into the community. The community is so excited to have Cara and Henry be our senior prefects, lets hope for an amazing jobs year!

What do you think of your new role?

I love it!! I've been at Wooster since 6th grade so being able to go through the jobs program for so many years and now having a role in it has been awesome.

What do you do as a prefect?

Henry and I work together to run the self help program and Wooster events. We make the jobs list and are always there to help students in whatever they may need!

What are your goals?

To have a perfect attendance record for all job areas!

Are there any changes you hope to see in the student body?

I'm excited to see the changes in the new students as they transition into our school. We have a really special and rare community that I'm happy to welcome everyone into. Jobs is definitely a new concept to them and to watch their efforts to better our school is gonna be really great to see.

What have you been impressed by so far?

I've been so impressed by our senior class as they step into their leadership positions and become great role models for all. Wooster Olympics would not have been the same without their help.

What do you want to focus on this year?

Getting to know everyone on campus and having students become involved in larger projects during jobs!

If you could pick any celebrity to be a senior prefect, who would you pick?

Zac Efron as Troy Bolton in High School Musical

What do you think of your new role?

At first I wasn't too thrilled about my new leadership position because it's a difficult place to fill. Now I'm very excited to work with everyone in and outside of jobs to make campus a better place!

What do you do as a prefect?

As a prefect Cara and I work together to supervise and run jobs as well as other events such as the Wooster Olympics. We sometimes do mini speeches or say a few words during gatherings. We also try to make sure all of the other prefects are staying on task and are keeping up with their duties.

What are your goals?

I would like to have campbell use the correct colors on the attendance sheet. I would also like to plan more events and gatherings for people to get to know each other and socialize. An example of this already was the senior pancake breakfast.

Are there any changes you hope to see in the student body?

I think so far we have a great student body! I would like everyone who's new or returning to go to jobs or be thorough in their communication process if they cannot make it. Wooster has a great community so there's not too many changes I would like to see made.

What have you been impressed by so far?

I have been impressed by how well most of the freshman seem to be fitting in and making new friends. I like how other grades are also inclusive to others and are very welcoming. I'm also impressed by the seniors and their level of leadership so far in the year.

What do you want to focus on this year?

I would like to focus on having a smooth running jobs period. I would like for everyone in each area to be comfortable with everyone and communicate. Hopefully this leads to friendships and we can create a large spread sense of welcoming in the community.

If you could pick any celebrity to be a senior prefect, who would you pick?

I would pick Ryan Reynolds's to be senior prefect.
