Senior Reflections: Campbell & Dash

by: Elise Newman

As a senior, I have been reflecting on my past three years of high school as well as thinking about the months to come. In DLI Humanities with Mr. Pannone, we touched upon the thoughts and feelings that follow. We talked about the various major events that are impending for the seniors. College applications, leadership responsibilities, planning school-wide events, SIS, etc. Mr. Pannone has implemented journaling for every student in his class that we will keep up with for the entire school year. This gave me the idea to start a WiNK Senior Journal so that non-DLI Humanities students can take part. My goal is that every Senior who wants to will have the opportunity to share their experience and then check back in at the end of the year to compare their answers. Hopefully, the senior class will grow closer due to the similarities they find in each other's journals and the underclassmen will use this information in preparation for their own senior years.

This week we have an inside look at Campbell Greenberg and Daschel Knuff's thoughts and feelings toward senior year.

Campbell:

How has your senior year been so far? Why?

Good. I've been able to experience a lot at this school and make close connections with the people here. The many electives and fun spirit of the school make it always exciting.

What are you most looking forward to for your last year in high school? Why?

I'm looking forward to making more friends and experiencing more of what Wooster has to offer.

What is causing you the most stress currently? Why?

College early decisions are coming near and I'm excited but nervous about the answer. I'm also now thinking more about the future of my life which can always be stressful.

What three words would you use to describe how you are feeling right now? Why these words?

I'm feeling amped up, motivated and energetic. There's never a reason to be constantly stressed and it's always better to get something done than to sit around and feel sorry for myself.

How are you doing in relation to the college process?

I have sent an early decision and I am ready to send out my regular decisions as well.

What is your favorite class currently? Why?

They all are great and a big part of that is the wonderful teachers. They really care about teaching students and I know I can trust each of them to bring out the best in me.

Final Words:

Thank you. Wooster has been a great part of my life and I know it will continue to do so. I can't wait to see what success my Class of '23 can do.

Daschel:

How has your senior year been so far? Why?

Senior year has been a real opportunity for growth. I was somebody who felt like the people I was closest to were in the grades above me and so when they all left I had to readjust my social life quite drastically. This was kind of hard at first but It was an awesome opportunity to strengthen existing relationships and create some new ones.

What are you most looking forward to for your last year in high school? Why?

I'm really looking forward to getting into college and going on SIS. I think getting into college will be a big weight off of my shoulders and SIS just sounds awesome.

What is causing you the most stress currently? Why?

Knowing I'm going to have to decide on a college. Making big decisions like those stress me out.

What three words would you use to describe how you are feeling right now? Why these words?

Growing, calm, and confused. Growing because Senior year brings a lot of changes and so I feel like I'm growing through all of it. Calm because I feel like I have a pretty realistic mindset of things that are happening and so I feel at peace with it all. This year has thrown a lot of curve balls but to be honest I'm enjoying all of them

How are you doing in relation to the college process?

I'm doing pretty well, I have applied to half of my schools and have a decent amount of work done for all the colleges I have yet to apply to.

What is your favorite class currently? Why?

Probably statistics. Dr. Sullivan is an incredibly intelligent and wonderful person and so outside of class work, which he often helps me with, he indulges many of my off-topic questions with scientific curiosity which can lead to unexpected and interesting results.

Final Words:

Life is good.
