Senior Reflections: Grayce & Chris

by: Elise Newman

As a senior, I have been reflecting on my past three years of high school as well as thinking about the months to come. In DLI Humanities with Mr. Pannone, we touched upon the thoughts and feelings that follow. We talked about the various major events that are impending for the seniors. College applications, leadership responsibilities, planning school-wide events, SIS, etc. Mr. Pannone has implemented journaling for every student in his class that we will keep up with for the entire school year. This gave me the idea to start a WiNK Senior Journal so that non-DLI Humanities students can take part. My goal is that every Senior who wants to will have the opportunity to share their experience and then check back in at the end of the year to compare their answers. Hopefully, the senior class will grow closer due to the similarities they find in each other's journals and the underclassmen will use this information in preparation for their own senior years.

This week we have an inside look at Grayce Amos and Chris Lopes's thoughts and feelings toward senior year.

Grayce Amos

How has your senior year been so far? What feels different now that we are in the second trimester of senior year?

Senior year has been great! Since I am out of the college application process I can finally relax a little, spend time with friends and enjoy school in general.

What are you most looking forward to in these last months before we leave for SIS?

Hanging out with friends and really enjoying the last moments of my high school career.

What three words would you use to describe how you are feeling right now? Why these words?

I am anxious for college decisions to come out. I am excited to see where everyone will end up. I am optimistic for the rest of my senior year. Prom, senior send-off, DQ day, etc.

What is causing you the most stress currently? Why?

Currently managing my time is causing me the most stress. I have assumed a lot of responsibilities recently as Equity and Inclusion prefect and it is hard to juggle school work and prefect work.

How are you doing in relation to the college process? Have you gotten in anywhere? Have you made any decisions?

I have gotten accepted into 4 colleges so far and am waiting on responses from a few more. No decisions have been made yet.

What is your favorite class currently? Why?

Currently, my favorite class is DLI Madness. This class really allows me to collaborate with my peers and is always a fun environment to step into.

Final Words:

I am very excited to see what the rest of senior year has in store!

Chris Lopes

How has your senior year been so far? What feels different now that we are in the second trimester of senior year?

My senior year has been going well. Now that we are in the second trimester, it feels like I have no more work. I am close to finishing college applications, not big projects, and very little homework.

What are you most looking forward to in these last months before we leave for SIS?

What I am most looking forward to in these last few months before we leave for SIS is watching the basketball games and their attempts to become HVAL champions.

What three words would you use to describe how you are feeling right now? Why these words?

The three words I would use to describe how I am feeling right now are relaxed, happy, and content. I picked those three words because I don't feel stressed out by school now, and I am pretty happy that I'm almost done with the college applications.

What is causing you the most stress currently? Why?

What is currently causing me the most stress is my application to McGill. This is causing the most stress because I have not been rejected from the school, but the student portal says that my application has been reviewed, and they are still waiting to make a decision.

How are you doing in relation to the college process? Have you gotten in anywhere? Have you made any decisions?

I have one more supplemental essay to complete until I am finished with my college applications. I have yet to commit to a college, but I have been accepted to a few CT colleges and Drexel.

What is your favorite class currently? Why?

I love Mr. Cataldo's Mafia course. I have known Mr. Cataldo since eighth grade. He has always been one of my favorite teachers. From throwing Arteen out of class to giving advice and lending an ear, Mr. Cataldo has always been one of the most influential teachers in my life.

Final Words:

Senioritis is real.
