Premier League Team Profiles: Manchester City

Every week, I have been introducing each team in the Premier League. The Premier League consists of 20 different teams, so each week, I profile each one and share some key information about them.

Manchester City was founded in 1880. The club is, quite obviously, based in Manchester and is housed in the City of Manchester Stadium; or more commonly known as the Etihad. Etihad can hold a capacity of 55,017 people. The club was one of the founding members of the Premier League and has only been relegated once in 1998. They then returned in 2002 and have stayed since.

Manchester City are commonly known as the 'noisy neighbors' to the more popular and more successfully neighboring team: Manchester United. The blue team's fans were so used to their team losing or coming in second to the reds, that they made a term for it: 'typical City,' for when they expected disappointment. However, a season that will go down in their history that was definitely not 'typical City,' is the 2011/12 campaign. Their first derby that season ended with a jaw dropping result: United 1-6 City. That was the biggest win they have ever had against the red team. The two rivals were neck and neck the whole season; both having ups and downs until it came down to the last two fixtures of the season. They were tied for first place on points, however City had the advantage of goal difference. The last day of the season included two simultaneous games: City vs QPR and Sunderland vs United. They were each deciding their fates at the same times, their fans showing the emotions from what was happening at the other match. United ended with a 1-0 win while City were still fighting at a 2-2 draw until Sergio Aguero broke the tie with a goal during added time. This concluded the season with Manchester City winning the league title for the first time in 44 years. As well as that season's success, they have won three other Premier League titles, some more recently and have also earned themselves six FA Cups and five FA Cup Runners-up

The manager that led them to that success was Roberto Mancini who reigned from 2009 until 2013. The blues' current manager is Pep Guardiola. He began in 2016 and has led his team to some quite successful seasons.

Last season, City finished in second place on the table. This year, they began a bit shaky, landing themselves mid-table, but have now caught up to third place with nine wins, four draws and just two losses.
