Girls Lacrosse on the first day of practice

After a very long and tiring year, we are extremely happy to be back on the fields. The past year, spring sports were canceled (or rather, moved online) as a result of covid and we are lucky enough to be able to play this year. As all spring team sports are outside, this season should be the most normal out of all. For all teams, there will be games and we hope to make it the best season yet! However, as a community, we need to make sure we are abiding by all of the rules to make sure we stay safe and have a great season.

Mr. Hutchins sent out a screencast at the beginning of the week to let everyone know the rules that are in place. For starters, masks should be on at all times, unless social distancing is in place while drinking water or taking a mask break. If you do take off your mask make sure you are staying at least six feet away from the people around you and put it on right after you have finished. Another important thing that Mr. Hutchins mentioned is to store any equipment that you have outdoors. The locker rooms should only be used as a place to change.

Sloane and I interviewed Cole Breen '22, who is on the ultimate frisbee team. When asked about how practice is with masks, he explained that the team keeps their masks on at all times, the only time they take them off is for water breaks. Cole said, "I really don't like running with the mask on, it is hard to breathe and makes me get all sweaty." Cole also told us that the team has a few scrimmages scheduled and the team is excited.

Both girls and boys lacrosse and tennis have multiple games scheduled for the upcoming weeks. Sloane and I interviewed Bailey Fleming '21 and she is very excited to be back. Bailey told us, "After last year, I am so happy we are playing again and we have a good team. I am happy I get to end my senior year with this." Lastly, we interviewed Daschel Knuff' 23, who is on the boy's tennis team. "Luckily tennis is a very open sport, so even without social distancing, the sport is already played from a distance. We are looking forward to playing, and our first match is next Friday."

The whole Wooster community is thrilled to be playing spring sports again. For all teams, keep following rules and guidelines to make sure we have a great and successful season. For everyone else, make sure to stay tuned for updates about games for all sports!
