Why You Should Attend the Fall Arts Festival Tomorrow

Tomorrow, there will a lot going on within our campus. It's alumni weekend and on Saturday there will be homecoming games and the 4th Annual Fall Arts Festival! This Wednesday I met with the committee of teachers planning the Fall Festival activities to see what they had to say. "The Fall Festival is a day with hands-on activities, music, food and general joviality," says Mrs. Carlson, "we have things like puppets, candy, and parades!"

Mrs. Chodoff explains, "there's three types of puppets: goard puppets, tennis ball puppets, and sock puppets."

"And the puppet theatre that we are setting up so people can then perform with the puppets that they make," adds Ms. Barrett. Aside from puppet theatre, Mrs. Carlson lists some more activities that will be held at the festival: "there will be face painting, a halloween mural, there's those giant wearable sculptures that we always do of beasts and art history that you can just jump right into, there's going to be food for sale, Mr. Sacco will be doing his crazy games, there's going to be a ukelele and drumming circle." Mrs. Chodoff adds, "Dr. Sullivan is making reed instruments out of straws," and Mr. Sacco says "Don't forget about the library pumpkin arts! Those are really cool."

"Oh yeah, the literary pumpkin contest, that we will win for the third year in a row," Mrs. Carlson gloats. Mrs. Chodoff expands on the "wearable sculpture" idea by saying, "the lower school will have just gone to an exhibit at the Katonah Museum, displaying work from the artists Nick Cave and Arman, and in response to that they've been working on soundsuits; Third, fourth, and fifth grade are creating different styles of wearable sculptures that make some kind of noise and they also are tied into their classrooms' themes. So the third grade is doing like a quilt-themed design and fourth grade is doing kind of an engineering. They had to take their own, sort of, apparatus to wear. There is going to be a soundsuit parade to top it off!"

The Fall Festival is packed with fun fall activities! I can't wait to go to the ukulele and drumming circle! I asked if they had anything more to say to encourage people to come, and Mrs. Simard shared that "we have basically every musical ensemble performing what they've been working on all fall. So for some of them it will be their first performance of the year. There will be the Game of Thrones theme song and also Despacito," so that is certainly another reason to go! "...and middle school will be performing a play with sound effects that one of the middle schoolers wrote!" adds Ms. Barrett. Mrs. Carlson sums up that we should come because "who doesn't like to be entertained by Wooster's talent"?

"And for many people, they can go straight to the athletic games and be supportive for Homecoming"! Mr. Sacco adds.

Everyone is welcomed to the fall festival! So bring your friends, even if they aren't Wooster students or faculty. It is tomorrow, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, so come support Wooster's Art Community and also stop by the gyms and fields to cheer on the Generals at the Homecoming games! Also, if you are available to volunteer to help set up or face paint, the planning committee could certainly use an extra set of hands, just email Mrs. Gilson!
