Interviewing New Teachers: Ms.Flores

What do you teach?

I teach Spanish 2 and Spanish 4.

Where are you from/where did you grow up?

I grew up in South Carolina and I moved to Danbury in May of this year from Pennsylvania, where I went after college.

What's Your Favorite Music Artist and Genre?

I like pretty much any music, except country but I am trying to get into it. I gravitate towards Indy music, Rock music, and electronic but I don't really have a favorite.

Do you play any instruments?

I used to; I played Piano and I self taught myself to play Ukulele.

Do you have any pets?

Yes, I have a wonderful cat named Naya and growing up I had one cat.

How do you feel about starting at a new school during a pandemic?

I don't know about how I felt, I just knew that there were a lot of unknowns. It doesn't matter if you've been teaching for one year or ten years, it was all new. I almost felt like I was new to teaching because there were a lot of aspects to teaching that while I was comfortable with them, I had to adapt. I think that we've all learned to be flexible and I definitely feel more comfortable teaching than I thought I would and it's going a lot better than what a lot of people are saying in the news or on social media.

What is your favorite activity to do outside of school?

I love to cook and bake, and I love food in general. Anything to do with food tends to be my go to relaxation hobby. I really like making different things, I don't really have a lot of things on rotation. I also love to workout and be outside as much as possible and I love to play video games. My favorite video game as of right now is God of War on PlayStation, but I don't really play online games so students can't usually relate to the games I play.

What's one activity you did a lot over the summer?

One hobby I picked up -- we bought an espresso maker, so I have been working on perfecting the perfect Latte. I also ended up getting a piano for my birthday and I haven't been able to play in so long but I played for years before, so I've tried to pick that back up and get into music again.

What's your favorite food?

I always get stumped on the favorite food question because I just love food in general, but if I had to pick one type of food I would pick Asian food. I really love sushi but it is really difficult to make.

What was your favorite subject when you were in school?

Spanish came easily to me, so it actually wasn't my favorite subject. I loved my music classes and I was always a musical child and I was always in theater and musicals.

What is your favorite place to travel?

I don't travel as much as I'd like to, but I love traveling and the last place I went to was Ireland and that was really fun, but most of the time when I have breaks I go back to see my family in South Carolina. I don't really have a favorite place but I love the beach and I also really love the mountains, but I just really like exploring new places and going outside.
