The preseason practices are over; we held our third annual Mid-Day Madness; the weather still feels like fall, but the winter sports season is about to begin! Upper and Middle School students will begin competing in basketball, hockey, and skiing!
The Varsity Boys Basketball 2017-18 season features some new faces, as the boys come off of back-to-back league championships. The group has worked extremely hard thus far as they head into their first several games.
Led by Coach Mike Evans, senior captains Josh Carone '18, Chris Gephart '18, and Bennett Wattles '18 have proven eager to compete, creating a vibrant practice environment. Charlie Gabrik '18, Cosme Navarro '18, and Jarrett White '18, also seniors, provide very strong leadership and hold high expectations for a big season. Cooper Byrnes '19, Tyler Wagnblas '19, Sam MacMillan '19, and Chris Torres '19, all juniors, add to the team's skill and grit, while sophomores Charlie Stuhr '20, Colin Costigan '20, Max Morales-Thomason '20, and freshman Sean Fullerton '21 add scrappiness and toughness in all areas.
The Generals open up the 2017-18 schedule at home versus King School on November 30. Be ready for a fast pace lined with discipline; this is a hardworking group of kids who love playing the game.
The Girls Varsity Basketball team will look to continue its storied history and winning ways during the 2017-18 campaign. Although some of the faces on the team change from year to year, the great camaraderie, team chemistry, successes, and family-like feel have remained a constant. The team is in good shape with four returning experienced players: Caylynn Maldonado '18, Morgan McCutcheon '18, Lizzie Nicoletti '18, and Brittany Reid '18. This veteran group will be ably assisted by three other seniors: Laura Arzola '18, Gabby Binghi '18, and Ruiying Huang '18. We are thrilled to welcome the following talented newcomers to the team: Alicia Nicoletti '20, Ali Lopes '21, Hannah Matteson '21, and Emma Shorten '21. Rounding out our team are Nicole Caraballo '19 and Jillian Schnaudigel '21 in managerial roles.
Given the level of skill, competitiveness, and desire displayed throughout tryouts, the players should be very optimistic regarding the season ahead and their development. This team should be fun to watch as they strive to pursue their individual and collective potential, which should include a run at the HVAL title. Coach Dave MacNutt, in his 25th year as Wooster's Head Coach, says "If the players work to the best of their ability, we are in store for a very rewarding season."
The Generals open up the 2017-18 schedule on the road at Hopkins School on December 4.

The Generals team has its first race on January 10 at Catamount Ski Area.
