Wooster School's 96th Convocation
Posted 09/15/2021 02:49PM

On Friday, September 10, 2021, the official start to Wooster School's 96th year began. As is our tradition, we came together as a community for Convocation, and this year on Coburn Lawn.

Head of School, Matt Byrnes, welcomed the community and then introduced Robert Gabrik, Senior Prefect, who led everyone in the school prayer. Continuing in a time honored tradition, Senior Prefect, Lillie Shipman, led everyone in the reciting of the School Honor Code. Tradition continued as we celebrated Crayons to Commencement. Students who began their Wooster School careers in the Lower School, and are now seniors, were recognized. The eleven seniors were each presented with a box of crayons, symbolic of their early days on the campus of Wooster School.

The students recognized were: Alex Ancona, Sam Briody, Joey Everett, Lalo Farro, Zach Felton, Robert Gabrik, Justine Gray, Meghan Heneghan, Deanna Jones, Skyler Marcus, and Evie Zahner.

Mr. Byrnes then shared some remarks with the community, "The pandemic made clear to me something that I should have already understood -- that when we get to choose how to experience our now time -- not the time in the future, but now time -- we should do our best to make that time, particularly when spent with others, something that we value." He added, "Work on appreciating your minutes, and hours, and days here at Wooster together. The now time. Choose to be a learner and a full community member. Spend your time listening and interacting, doing things that eventually will give you even more insight into how you want to spend your life's time, thinking and changing. Don't obsess about the future time. If you learn to value the present -- really get good at it -- the future will be more likely to take care of itself."
