At Wooster School, a co-educational, 3 -12 independent day school in Danbury, CT, we've spent the last couple of years thinking about -- and asking parents: "What are the most important jobs that we do for you?" In other words, what's most important to them when they think about the progress that they'd like to see their child make in school? It has been gratifying to learn that the things that make us stand apart from other schools, the strongest elements of our community, culture, and programs, are also what parents most want.

Job One: All students will feel a strong sense of belonging to our community, build relationships, and be well known, as people and learners.

Job Two: All students will discover strengths and build confidence through opportunity and participation -- constantly exploring interests, leading, following, and collaborating.

Job Three: All students will build the skills, dispositions, and knowledge necessary to be successful in academic and work settings throughout life.

Job Four: All students will learn that health, wellness, and fulfillment are essential to a life well-lived.

As you can see, our work starts with creating community and a sense of belonging, then within that community, we seek to provide opportunities -- everyone participates at Wooster -- which helps students build confidence and want to do more. Throughout their experience, students are building their skills -- like reading, writing, and math -- and the so-called "soft" ones, like communication, empathy, and resilience. Finally, we want all students to understand and be active participants in creating pathways that lead to wellness and fulfillment, which is what success in life is all about, right?

An additional opportunity we will provide to prospective families is our Deep Learning Initiative (DLI) and Elective Showcase. Hear directly from our students as they share the remarkable work they engage with and have produced over the past year!

Join us for an Open House, along with a DLI and Elective Showcase on Tuesday, December 3 at 6:00 pm.

The evening will begin in the Wean Room, located in the Verdery Library. This event is for both parents and students. We look forward to talking to you about the deep work happening at Wooster.
