Event Recap:

On Wednesday, September 11th, Girls Varsity Soccer (GVS) had a game against Williams School. On the way to Williams School, some girls had some doubt saying that Williams had previously beat a recent opponent. As the game started the girls worked together well. Within five minutes of the game, Kat Mancinone scored the first goal, and the bench roared. Williams School quickly got it back by scoring not one but two-goals by the end of the first half. During half time Coach, Pereira talked to the girls. He motivated them to compete more consistently for 50-50 balls, to learn from their mistakes in the first half. If the team focused on those two areas, good things would happen in the second half.

As the second half started with the score was 2-1. Williams scored the first goal of the second half increasing the deficit to two goals. This gave the team some doubt but they didn’t give up. The teams exchanged opportunities for much of the second half. Presley Damiano scored mid-way through the half to get the team within a goal. The bench screamed with excitement.

Time was running out and Wooster still needed one goal for a draw. Many opportunities were given that were either saved or that missed the net. With a minute left in the game, the girls continued to drive forward, looking for chances. On the defensive side of the ball, the backline of Darby, Jordan, Katie, and Elise kept the girls in it, making the necessary challenges to keep Williams from scoring. Evie was an absolute rock in goal in the second half as well, coming up with important saves. worked as hard as they could. The ball was in our end and a Williams girl shot but missed the net. With 30-seconds left Wooster won a free-kick close to the defensive touchline. Presley quickly took the kick, finding Alice in the midfield. Alice played a beautiful threw ball to Kat who sliced through the defense for a goal with 11-seconds left on the clock. Everyone on the bench cheered. The horn blared and the game was over. In the words of Kat “We stole the win from them.” Coach told the girls in his postgame talk that it was one of the best games he'd ever been a part of.
